Water Treatment Plant Improvement Projects

Recovered Water Pump Station (RWPS) and Finished Water Pump Station (FWPS)

The original RWPS and FWPS were constructed in 1985 to supply 12 million gallons per day (MGD) and were expanded in 2001 to 18 MGD. The existing infrastructure is beyond its useful life, parts are difficult to obtain, and frequent maintenance is required. In addition, the existing pumps cannot meet projected future demands for the City of Stillwater and the surrounding areas.

This project consists of building a new RWPS and FWPS designed to move 24 MGD and be expandable to 30 MGD in the future. This project will replace the existing Yost Pump Station and house new pumps within the FWPS building.

Construction began in February 2024 and is scheduled for completion by December 2026. The project investment is approximately $27 million and will ensure safe, dependable water service for Stillwater and surrounding areas.

Water Treatment Plant Chemical Improvements

The Water Treatment Plant was built in 1985 to provide 12 million gallons of treated water per day for the community. In 2001, it was expanded to 18 million gallons per day. Now, much of the equipment has reached the end of its useful life while water demand continues to grow. To meet future needs, the WTP must be expanded to 24 million gallons per day.

The Chemical Improvements Project is the first major step toward that expansion. Key upgrades include:

  • Replacing the lime system
  • Upgrading chlorine and ozone systems
  • Replacing the carbon dioxide feed system
  • Adding sodium hydroxide for improved water stability
  • Adding sodium hexametaphosphate to help prevent pipe corrosion

These improvements will make the plant safer, more efficient, and ready for future expansion. Construction began in February 2025 and is scheduled for completion in April 2027. With an investment of over $25 million, this project will strengthen Stillwater’s water system and support reliable service for the community well into the future.
