Tax Form Preparation Assistance

AARP Free Tax Help at the Library - Appointments will open Jan. 15, 2026

AARP tax assistance volunteers prepare taxes for free each year from February to April 15. There are no age or yearly income qualifications to participate in this program.

  • AARP provides free tax help by appointment ONLY. Limited appointments are available. If you can get your taxes prepared by alternate methods, please consider doing so to ensure that there are enough appointments available for those in our community who need them the most.
  • Please note that there are some types of returns that the AARP cannot prepare. Click here for a list (PDF).
  • Review or print the AARP appointment instructions (PDF). You will get a copy when you pick up your intake packet.

About Appointments

  1. Schedule an intake appointment. Intake appointments (when you come with your prepared intake packet and meet with an AARP Tax-Aide) are available on Tuesdays only. The first appointment is at 9:20 a.m., and the last one is at 12:40 p.m.You will need to be available to pick up your completed taxes on Friday at the same time you had your intake appointment. (For example, if your intake appointment is Tuesday at 9:40 a.m., your pick-up appointment will be that same week on Friday at 9:40 a.m.)
  2. Pick up and complete an intake packet. You MUST pick up an intake packet from the library and have it completed BEFORE your scheduled intake appointment. If you're coming from out of town, you can arrive 30 minutes before your appointment on the day of your appointment to complete the packet.
  3. Come to your appointment. Be sure to bring:
    • Photo ID (such as a driver's license) for the taxpayer and spouse, if married and filing jointly
    • Social security card for each person on your tax return (photocopies are recommended)
    • Completed intake packet (see above - pick up at the library)
    • All tax documents. Here is a list of documents (PDF) to bring to the appointment. (Note: If you do not bring in all necessary tax documents, volunteers will not be able to prepare your taxes, and making another appointment may not be possible.)

For the last couple of years, the OSU Spears School of Business has also provided free VITA tax appointments. Librarians are checking to see if they plan to offer appointments in 2026.
