Request a Hydrant Flow Test

The City of Stillwater provides hydrant flow tests at no cost to customers needing real-world water distribution system performance data. During a hydrant flow test, City staff attach flow and pressure measuring devices to a pair of hydrants and gather data to predict the flow that could be pumped from the hydrant.

Operations staff will then schedule and perform the flow test. The City's Engineering staff will review the field results and provide you with a map and results summary. For an example, see the Hydrant Flow Test Example (PDF)

Allow up to two weeks for test results. If you need faster results, we'll do our best to work with you. If you prefer, you may perform your own flow test under direct supervision by our operations staff. Provide as much notice as possible so that we can schedule our staff accordingly.

For assistance with the permitting process for fire suppression systems, new construction, and other development, contact the City's Community Development department. The Development Services department's friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable staff are ready to meet your needs.

The City's rural systems are intended for domestic use only and do not support fire protection systems. If you need a fire protection system and you are a rural system customer, you are welcome to provide your own reservoir and fill it via your household water meter.

Note: Hydrant flow summaries are typically performed and reported in a manner consistent with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 291 and American Water Works Association (AWWA) recommendations. The results provided are an indication of the performance of the system at the time that it was taken. Seasonal and daily variations in system demand will directly impact system performance.
