Teens in grades six through 12 can join their peers at the Stillwater Public Library on Friday, Dec. 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. to play board games and enjoy a hot cocoa bar and pizza. Registration is required to ensure there are enough snacks for attendees.
The library will provide a variety of board games, including Life, Ticket to Ride, Apples to Apples and Superfight. Additionally, there will also be a Marvel-themed role-playing board game, and teens are also welcome to bring their own card or board games to the event.
Jordan Stine, teen librarian, worked with the Teen Advisory Council (TAC) to provide a relaxing and fun activity during the holiday season.
“Our TAC members are really enthusiastic about board games,” Stine said.
Games popular among TAC members include Dungeons and Dragons, Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon, including many others.
Stine adds that the inspiration for this program came from teens who love board games of all sorts and wanted to plan a program where teens have the space to try new games and play beloved classics.
“TAC members wanted to create a fun space for teens to meet and try new games that they would have never known about and give them the chance to play classics with someone new.”
The hot cocoa bar will feature a variety of toppings, including marshmallows, peppermints, candy canes, chocolate chips and other goodies. Pizza and beverages will also be provided by the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library.
Registration can be found at stillwaterok.gov/LibraryRegister. Those interested may also register by calling (405) 372-3633 x8106 or by stopping by the library’s Help Desk in person.
