(Stillwater, OK) – Boomer Lake Park sun deck will be completely removed due to safety concerns and will not be rebuilt at this time.
The more than 60 year-old, sun deck was deemed unsafe and closed to the public last spring after the decking and guardrails were identified in need of replacement. After inspection by an outside structural and civil engineer firm, most of the concrete piers revealed significant deterioration and would need to be either reinforced or replaced.
With an estimated cost of $600,000, the City does not plan to rebuild the sun deck due to other infrastructure projects which they are seeking funding to address. Other projects include roadways, facility maintenance, park bathrooms, and other safety initiatives.
Staff is in the process of obtaining all applicable permits for final pier removal.
Additional information will be provided at a City Council meeting in July.
