Learn how to preserve garden produce at the Stillwater Public Library

Library News Posted on September 29, 2025 | Last Updated on October 15, 2025

The Stillwater Public Library and the Payne County Extension Office are presenting “Canning Your Harvest” on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. Space is limited and registration is required.

Attendees will learn how to safely preserve produce gathered from the garden. The difference between pressure and water bath canning, as well as what produce should be canned and by which method, will also be covered.

Dea Rash, Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Educator at OSU’s Payne County Extension Office and Christi Evans, Assistant State Extension Specialist for Food Safety, will teach the class. They are excited to share their knowledge on canning safely.

“Canning is a fun way to extend your enjoyment of gardening by having healthy food available during the winter,” Rash said. “But it is important to use current research-based canning practices to make sure your food is properly and safely preserved.”

The library also has an abundance of books covering gardening, harvesting and cooking that can be checked out. Digital titles and magazines can be found on the Libby App. For assistance finding books or learning to navigate the Libby App, stop by the library’s help desk.
