The Friends of the Stillwater Public Library’s biannual book sale returns for its fall edition on Sept. 18-21, featuring thousands of books available for bargain prices – 25 cents to $1.
“Prices are rising for nearly everything,” said Stacy DeLano, library director. “But the Friends have kept the cost of book sale items the same for years, making it affordable for the community to add books to their personal collections."
The book sale will be held in the Stillwater Public Library’s meeting room building, with items spread across multiple floors. Books cost $1 for hardbacks, 50 cents for paperbacks and 25 cents for children's books. DVDs, CD books, music CDs and vinyl records are priced at $1 each. Sales tax is not charged. The Friends accept cash or checks, but not credit or debit cards.
The sale begins with “Preview Night” on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 5-8 p.m. Entry costs $10 at the door, unless attendees have already purchased a lifetime Stillwater Friends of the Library membership. Buyers at the preview sale are limited to purchasing 100 items in total, including 50 children’s books.
The sale continues on Friday when it opens to the general public. Hours are Friday, Sept. 19, from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, Sept. 21, the remaining items become part of the $1 bag sale, where buyers can fill a bag with books of their choosing for $1. The Friends provide bags, and there is no limit to the number of bags that can be purchased.
All proceeds from the sale benefit the Stillwater Public Library.
“I don’t think people realize just how much supporting the used books sales helps the library and the community,” DeLano said. “The money raised by the Friends allows the library to provide a lot of amazing programs, materials and services.”
Programs for all ages, including the winter and summer reading programs, library-specific events for LexiCon and community reading series, are all funded through Friends donations.
“There are several ways you can support the Friends of the Library beyond shopping at the sales,” DeLano said. “Consider donating books or volunteering your time –your involvement directly helps our library thrive.”
Book donations for the Friends sale are accepted year-round and are greatly appreciated. Carts are available, and staff can assist as needed. Donation receipts for tax purposes are available on request.
