Only literary murders in the library
(Stillwater, OK) – The Stillwater Public Library will begin the holiday season with an interactive murder mystery full of intrigue on Friday, Dec. 5, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. “Murder! In A Christmas Carol” is set in the Victorian era and is loosely based on the novel by Charles Dickens. This program is designed for adults 18 and older, and registration is required.
Local sleuths will reenact roles based on the classic story using scripts that will feature one murderer who must protect their identity. All other attendees must deduce who killed Jacob Marley. Roles will include Ebenezer, Bob Cratchit, the Ghost of Christmas Past and more.
Librarian Brenna Gilchrist encourages participants to dress in Victorian-era garb to enhance the ambiance of the event.
“Part of the fun of murder mysteries is getting into the role,” Gilchrist said. “Whether that’s through acting and trying out accents, or putting together an authentic costume, the goal is to let yourself inhabit the story.”
Refreshments, including warm drinks and seasonal pies, will be provided by the Friends of the Stillwater Public Library. Participants may also bring treats to share with others.
Gilchrist is looking forward to having another murder mystery at the library.
“Our first murder mystery was a hit and well attended,” Gilchrist said. “Now seemed like the perfect time to hold another one since the program aligns perfectly with our spooky winter reading theme.”
The library’s winter reading program, “Feel the Chill with Winter Reading,” runs from Nov. 17 through Dec. 31 and is open to all ages – kids, teens and adults. It encourages everyone to read a little bit (at least 15 minutes) daily, with prizes earned every seven days.
