Teens

During the summer, teen programs are mostly comprised of events related to the library's Summer Reading Program. Check the calendar below for a full schedule of programs in the fall. Typically, there is at least one teen program per month. Activities have included video games, movies, anime, crafts, study groups, writing, after-hours reading parties, and more! Check the Calendar for all upcoming programs, and don't forget to sign-up for library newsletters and news notifications via our Stay Connected page for ways to keep up with new library happenings.

The library has databases featuring full-text magazine articles for elementary students and access to Brainfuse, which provides free online tutoring for Kindergarten through college students on numerous subjects. The library's Teen Advisory Committee (TAC) meets on the second Tuesday of every month to brainstorm and plan teen programs, make suggestions for the young adult library collection, and talk about books, movies, and more over snacks. Active members of TAC can also receive credit for volunteer hours, which can be used toward volunteer requirements for school and other organizations. Other activities of TAC members include:

• Promoting reading and library programs by creating displays in the Young Adult section of the library
• Helping set up before and/or clean up after teen programs
• Sharing teen programs with peers at school, on social media, and in the community
• Researching young adult books and suggesting titles to add to the library collection

Apply by completing the online application form. A signed permission slip from a parent or guardian is required to join and participate in TAC. You can upload it to your online application or bring it to the Adult Help Desk.

Other volunteer opportunities for teens come up from time to time. The library often needs extra help to assist with summer reading programs and sometimes to assist with exhibits or other events. Teen Summer Reading Program Volunteers

The library is looking for hard-working, motivated teen volunteers ages 13-18 to help with its summer reading program. Teen volunteers will help librarians with children's and teen programs. We have several slots open to help make and pass out popcorn during our summer cinema on Thursdays. If interested, please register online. (Look under "Library Teen Programs.)
