The Stillwater Public Library (SPL) invites teens in grades six through 12 to sign up for “Teen Game Zone” on Friday, Nov. 21, from 6-8 p.m. Attendees will use phones, laptops or tablets to participate in a series of party games played on a Nintendo Switch. Librarians request registration to help ensure there are enough snacks and game options for everyone.
Jordan Stine, SPL’s teen librarian, hopes that teens will be motivated to come to the library with their friends.
“We plan to set up a chill, relaxing and fun program where teens can be themselves,” Stine said. “These games encourage teens to be creative, and maybe they’ll even make some new friends along the way!”
Party games will include “Quiplash,” “T-KO,” “Cookie Haus,” “Legends of Trivia” and “Doominate.” All games require connecting to a Nintendo Switch using a smartphone, laptop or tablet. Teens may bring their own devices or borrow one from the library.
Attendees play party games by creating an anonymous username to join a local “party.” Games include answering questions with silly answers, competing in trivia contests and designing t-shirts. Audience members then vote for the funniest answer and the player with the most points at the end of the round wins.
“The games that teens will be playing have a competitive edge, but ultimately it’s about the fun that you have with your friends,” Stine said.
Teens who do not want to participate in video games may also join the audience since there will be a limited number of contestants for each party game. Audience votes decide the winners, and teens will take turns playing subsequent rounds. Pizza and soda refreshments will also be provided.
Registration for “Teen Game Zone” can be found at stillwaterok.gov/LibraryRegister. Those interested may also visit the library or call the Help Desk at (405) 372-3633 x8106 if they have any additional questions.
