(STILLWATER, OK) – On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 11:25 a.m., the Stillwater Police Department (SPD) responded to a trespassing complaint at the Fairfield Inn located at 418 E. Hall of Fame. Staff at the establishment reported that an occupant of one of the rooms was refusing to leave upon request.
SPD officers, accompanied by management, attempted to resolve the situation peacefully by asking the individual to vacate the premises. Despite these efforts, the occupant, identified as Ivan Bell, 52 of Tulsa, refused to comply.
During the interaction, Bell became hostile and began striking at officers with an unknown object from inside the room. He subsequently barricaded himself inside, posing a potential threat to himself and others.
In response to the escalating situation, the Stillwater Multi-Jurisdictional Special Operations Team (SOT) was called in to assist. Despite attempts by officers from the Crisis Negotiations Team to communicate with Bell and encourage him to surrender peacefully, he remained uncooperative.
The SOT utilized chemical agents to encourage Bell to exit the room safely. When this tactic proved unsuccessful, officers proceeded to breach the door and apprehend Bell without further incident.
Bell was promptly identified, treated on scene by LifeNet personnel, and subsequently transported to the City of Stillwater jail for processing.
