Stillwater Fire Honors New Recruits with Official Pinning Ceremony

(STILLWATER, OK) – Earlier today, Stillwater Fire added new recruit firefighters Dane Lemmon, Brandon Vessar and Colton Savory to the ranks.

Lemmon is a certified EMT, who is originally from Cushing, Oklahoma. He obtained his EMT certification at Meridian Technology Center and later worked for the Perry Fire Department.

Vessar proudly served the United States Marine Corps and later attended Oklahoma State University. In 2019, he began working as a volunteer firefighter in Perkins and also for OSU Fire Service Training.

Savory is a graduate of Ripley High School and started his career at the Cushing Fire Department. This is where he obtained his EMT certification and valuable experience running the ambulance. Savory is continuing his family’s tradition of service, as his father is a Sergeant with Stillwater Police Department and his mother is a special agent for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

Gathered in Fire Station #1 with family, friends and fellow firefighters – the recruits were pinned with a badge that symbolizes the start of their career with the Stillwater Fire Department.

Fire Chief Terry Essary explained, recruits are pinned by their loved ones to signify that no one achieves success alone. It also symbolizes the duties and responsibilities that go along with the badge.

“Every time we pin on our badge, whether to be sworn in as the newest recruit or as a veteran firefighter, officer, or chief, we must remember the trust it represents and the higher code of conduct we collectively must uphold,” Essary said. “As firefighters we are one of the very few groups that have people’s complete trust to enter their homes. Residents invite us into their lives during what very well may be the worst and most terrifying day of their lives. These men understand the responsibility that comes with receiving the badge.”
