Place Holds & Renew
NOTICE: Since implementing automatic renewals yesterday, it has come to our attention that patrons who use Library Elf may receive due date messages that do not reflect the updated renewal dates if advance notice options are set earlier than the day before the due date (does not apply to OK Virtual Library items). Setting up your account with 1-day notifications should solve the problem. Email and text messages received from the library (via Sirsi, our library management system) will have the correct due date information. Please make sure that we have your up-to-date email address on file to ensure you are receiving accurate updates about renewals, and check your advance notice options in Library Elf. We apologize for any inconvenience this transition may cause and encourage patrons with questions regarding their renewals to contact the Circulation Department at (405) 372-3633, option 2, or email circulation@stillwater.org.
You can use your library card to place holds on items that are on the shelves, checked out, or on order/in-process. When the item becomes available for checking out, library staff will contact you so you can then come in to pick up the item in the library or schedule a curbside pickup time. Most items will be kept for you on the holds shelf for three days before being returned to the stacks or made available for the next person in line.
How to Place a Hold
- Search the Catalog by entering the title, author, subject, or keyword in the search box to locate the item(s) you want to place a hold(s) on
- Click the "Place Hold" button next to the title you wish to place a hold on
- On the next screen, enter your library card number
- Click the "Place Hold" button
- The next screen will verify the item was placed on hold. Click "Ok" to return to the item's description
Available/On-Shelf Items
Items that are currently on the shelf are usually pulled by 10 a.m. the following day (2 p.m. on Sundays.) You will be notified when the item is available for you to checkout. Placing a hold on an item in the library does not guarantee availability as our inventory changes often.
Unavailable, Checked-Out, or In-Process Items
If an item is checked out or in-process (ordered, but not ready to borrow yet) you will be placed on the hold list and notified when the item arrives and is available to checkout.
Changing Holds
- Visit the Catalog
- Select "My Account" at the top of the page to log in
- Enter your library card number
- Select the “Holds” tab
- Choose the book you wish to modify and adjust as needed
The library also offers curbside pick-up service. After you have placed an item on hold and library staff has notified you that the item is available, you can choose to pick up the item inside the library or arrange to pick it up curbside.
How to Schedule Curbside Pickup
- Contact the circulation desk to schedule a time for your pickup
- Come to the library at the scheduled time and pull forward through the overhang to the curbside pickup sign
- From your vehicle, call the circulation desk and a staff person will bring your items out to you
Automatic Renewals
Most items will attempt to renew automatically two days before their due dates. If the item renews, the new due date will be 15 days after the original due date. Items can renew twice before they become overdue.
The following items will not renew:
- Items with holds
- Items that have already been renewed the maximum number of times (2)
- Ebooks and eAudios checked out from the OK Virtual Library/Libby
- Interlibrary loan items
- Electronic devices (hotspots, tablets)
- Items checked out to special accounts that do not allow renewals (teacher & homebound)
Note: Your items will not renew if your account is blocked because of overdue items and/or fines of $5 or more.
Did My Items Renew?
If you have given the library your email address, you will receive an email message two days before an item's due date informing you if it was successfully renewed or not. You can also check your account online:
- Visit the Catalog
- Select "My Account" at the top of the page
- Enter your library card number
- Select the "Checkouts" tab and look at your library checkouts
- All items checked out on your card will be listed along with their due dates
If you want to renew items yourself, you may do so no more than 5 days before their due dates. This will extend the due date by 15 days.
